"PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH" is a phrase that suggests that military power can help preserve peace. It has been used by many leaders from Roman Emperor Hadrian, in the second century AD, to former US President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. The concept has long been associated with realpolitik. The idea has critics, with Andrew Bacevich stating, "Peace through Strength" easily enough becomes 'Peace through War." Wikipedia

There is a rank due to the United States among nations which will be withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the reputation of weakness. If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known that we are at all times ready for war.^"

ENDING MILITARISM IN AMERICA [Edited extracts from William J. Astore | TomDispatch.com]. The incessant military marches that form America’s background music, conveying the message that America must have war plans for China, that indeed war in or around China is possible, even probable, in the next decade; maybe in 2027? We should be alarmed by such secret US war plans, along with those “pivots” to Asia and the Indo-Pacific, and the military base-building efforts in the Philippines, than reassured by the “good news” that Billionaire Musk was denied access to the War Room, meaning he didn’t get to see “the big chessboard.”

William has been writing for TomDispatch for 18 years, this is his 111th essay (the other 110 are in a new book), most of them focusing on militarism in America, as well as the disastrous wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere; the ruinous weapons systems (including new apocalyptic nuclear weapons), and the war song that seems to remain unchanged.

President Trump has already bombed Yemen more than once. He’s already threatening Iran. He’s sending Israel all the materiel, all the weaponry it needs to annihilate the Palestinians in Gaza (so too, of course, did Joe Biden). He’s boasting of building new weapons systems like the Air Force’s much-hyped F-47 fighter jet, (the “47” designation being an apparent homage by its builder, Boeing, to Trump himself, the 47th president). He and his “defence” secretary, Pete Hegseth, continually boast of “peace through strength,” an Orwellian construction that differs little from the Orwellian “War is Peace.”

Occasionally, Trump sounds a different note, but if you judge him by deeds, rather than his words, he’s just another US commander-in-chief enamoured of the military and military force (whatever the cost, human or financial). America’s state of mind, the collective zeitgeist, (the spirit of the country), is one of a constant state of war and preparations for more of the same being accepted as normal. War, to put it bluntly, is America's default state: "The Welfare-Warfare State".

Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern did America a great service when he came up with the acronym MICIMATT, or the Military-Industrial-Congressional-Intelligence-Media-Academia-Think-Tank complex, an extension of President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Military-Industrial Complex, or MIC (from his farewell speech in 1961).

Along with the military and industry (weapons makers like Boeing and Lockheed Martin), the MICIMATT adds Congress (which Eisenhower had in his original draft speech but deleted in the interest of comity), the intelligence “community” (18 different agencies), the media, generally highly supportive of wars and weapons spending, academia (which profits greatly from federal contracts, especially research and development efforts for yet more destructive weaponry), and think tanks (which happily lap up Pentagon dollars, assuring that the “smart” position is always to prepare for yet more war).

It’s Congress; the CIA; related Intel “community” members; the mainstream media, which often relies on retired generals and admirals for “unbiased” pro-war commentary; academia (consider how quickly institutions like Columbia University have bent the knee to Trump); and think tanks, in fact all those “best and brightest” who advocate for war with China, the never-ending war on terror, and war everywhere.

The MICIMATT, which employs millions of Americans, consuming trillions of dollars, and churning through tens of thousands of body bags for US troops over the years, while killing millions of people abroad, is an almost irresistible force. And right now, it seems like there’s no unmovable object to blunt it. And while America has a Department of War (disguised as a Department of Defence, [ Ed: like Britain had a War Office which I joined in the 1960s], it has No Department of Peace, neither does Britain.

There’s no budget for making peace anywhere in the Western World. There is a colossal Pentagon that houses 30,000 workers, feverishly making war plans they won’t let even Elon Musk see. It’s for their eyes only, not yours, though they may well ask your kids to serve in the military, because the best-laid plans need lots of warm bodies, even if those very plans almost invariably turn into disasters: (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, et al.).

General Smedley Butler’s confession in the 1930s that “war is a racket” and is run by the “gangsters of capitalism.” Many Americans have, over the years, spoken out eloquently against war and militarism. Many beautiful and moving songs have asked us to smile on your brother and “love one another right now.” War, as Edwin Starr sang so powerfully is good for “absolutely nothin’,” though obviously a lot of people disagree and indeed are making a living by killing and preparing for yet more killing.

Too many people are making too much money from war. As Smedley Butler wrote: “Capital won’t permit the taking of the profit out of war until The People, (those who suffer and pay the price), decide that those elected to office shall do ‘The Peoples' bidding, and not that of The Profiteers.” Pretty simple, right? Until it's realised that the elites, who make the decisions are unelected, they are a cabal of moneyed elites whose only objective is accumulating infinite wealth and the highest court in America has declared that money is power to control others.

Ike told Americans in 1953 that constant warfare is no way of life, that it is (as he put it), humanity crucifying itself on a cross of iron. In 1961, he told Americans that democracy was threatened by an emerging Military-Industrial Complex which had to be brought to heel. Two years later, JFK told us that peace, even at the height of the Cold War, was possible, not just peace in our time, but peace for all time. However, it would, he assured us, require sacrifice, wisdom, and commitment. How can I improve on these words of wisdom which JFK uttered in 1963, just a few months before he was assassinated?

JFK had to go and it looks like today we are again in a 1963 Redux. Will Trump also follow JFK to the grave or are "The People" awake enough in 2025 to put a final end to the MICIMATT? The conflicts, wars, other killing machines, and the constant threat of new plandemics, just announced by the unelected chief of WHO, Tedros, the criminal, non-medical doctor that the next plandemic is just around the corner. THE MIDDLE EAST IS ALSO IN THE LINE OF FIRE - WITH IRAN IN THE BULLSEYE

For all intents and purposes, the Middle East and Near East refer to the same region when used today. In some ways the showdown with Iran was set in place on July 25, 2024, when Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed Congress and skillfully aligned Israel’s and the US policy on Iran, he declared: “If you remember one thing, one thing from this speech, remember this: Our enemies are your enemies, our fight is your fight, and our victory will be your victory.”

The only difference between war games, preparing for war, and actual war is in the intent. Israel intends to destroy Iran and needs the US/UK to do it for them. Joint US-Israeli Air Force war games have been held recently in preparation for an attack. The US has nineteen B-2 bombers, with their unique flying wing design, the plane is wrapped in radar-absorbing materials thus avoiding detection. The B-2s have sophisticated electronic countermeasures to jam or stymie opposition radar and missiles.

Each B-2 can carry sixteen, 2,400 lb. B83 thermo-nuclear gravity bombs, also known as nuclear bunker busters, which explode deep inside the earth. Each B83 bomb has the explosive capacity of 80 Hiroshimas which means each B-2 bomber is capable of delivering the destructive power of 1280 Hiroshimas. When a B83 detonates, it destroys underground structures, and sends shockwaves through rock, causing local earthquakes and massive ground displacement, together with radioactive debris being tossed into the atmosphere. But Why is Iran terrified of the US “MOTHER OF ALL BOMBS”?

The US will need to build a coalition, as they did when they attacked Iraq, and you can be sure that the Brits will be at the forefront, undercover of the mighty US military. The coalition would first attack Iran’s underground missile cities at Khorramabad, and Panj Pellah, Bakhtaran, with nuclear bunker busters or Massive Ordnance Penetrators (GBU-57), aimed at underground missile sites, to incapacitate Iran’s ability to retaliate. The use of nuclear bunker busters will send nuclear debris into the immediate atmosphere, and it will be carried aloft by the wind. This creates a multiplier factor in blast physics, collapsing tunnels and sending radioactive materials high into the atmosphere.

The ground-level Bushehr Nuclear Power plant will be targetted, its reactor vessel breached, the reactor core will meltdown, a massive release of radioactive materials (cesium-137, iodine-131, strontium-90, and plutonium) will be released into the atmosphere. Depending upon the wind direction, and the weather, radioactive plumes will drift over many countries.

Countless civilians will perish from radiation poisoning and severe burns. Birth defects will be present for generations to come. Nuclear explosion refugees will be created. Chernobyl-type effects will require people to leave their homes, never to return.

Iran can hit back with their underground missile system which is widely distributed. Faced with imminent destruction, Iran, at the first sign of an attack, will simultaneously launch multiple rockets from many underground sites, launching 1000s of missiles. The Shabab-3 has the potential to inflict much more significant damage over a larger radius of Israeli cities than Israel’s 2000 lb. bombs, the type dropped on Gaza,

Tens of thousands of US troops, Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, and Space Force are stationed within reach of Iranian missiles. They are under no threat unless Iran is attacked. Iran’s short-range missiles, Fateh-110 and Zolfagher, can reach Saudi Arabia. Iran’s medium-range ballistic missiles, the Shabab-3, Emad, Sejjil, and Ghadr can travel up to 1,550 miles (2,500 km), to Israel. Its intermediate range missiles are capable of striking 2,485 miles deep into eastern and central Europe,

It's not in the interests of the United States to attack Iran. However, America has been Netanyahu’s pawn for decades. The wealth, lives and security of USA could be sacrificed to an agenda which brings only debt and death to innocents around the world. During his campaign, President Trump stated repeatedly that he aimed to have a strong military to avoid war.

• Trump said, military strength must be matched by diplomatic strength. He must strike a deal that avoids a war with Iran, without policians' self-interested meddling. “Very bad things” do not have to happen if good people prevail. President Macron’s bombastic threats against Russia while trying to make it sound like Russia is the aggressor. Yes, he even used the “N” word; 'N' for nuclear. Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov said in response to Macron’s provocative statement, that Moscow sees his words on possible use of nuclear weapons as a threat.

There’s that word again. Threat. Both sides are threatening to respond violently to perceived threats. That’s not a good sign. Lavrov also stated that Russia sees no possibility for compromise on possible deployment of European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine, which it sees as a direct threat to its national security. “We see no room for compromise. This discussion is being conducted with an openly hostile purpose. They are not hiding what they need it for,” Lavrov said.

He went on to say that President Trump’s suspension of US intelligence transfers to Ukraine confirm Russia's prior statements that such assistance was being provided to Kiev, which used it to carry out missile strikes deep inside Russia. Western provision of targeting coordinates has also been used to guide Ukrainian drones to their Russia targets.

The unpopularity of the proposed military spending could skyrocket as soon as it translates into cuts to the welfare state. Given that the abandonment of cheap energy sources has undermined EU growth, re-armament is a desperate attempt to re-industrialise Europe. Hence, the campaign of 'war terror' among the population. In this way, the Franco-British initiatives are merely gestures of impotence, the result of an understanding of their weakness without Washington’s support.

Both Rutte’s comments and the European re-armament plan, along with the French, and British-led project to deploy troops in Ukraine, together convey a tension that runs counter to the US-promoted efforts to negotiate a peace. With NATO’s linchpin, Washington is following a different path than London and Brussels; the Franco-British intentions are doomed to fail without US support. Sources

POLAND SITREP - MARCH 2025

The Polish government has issued an emergency military draft for all men in the country amid fears that Europe is about to enter WW3 with Russia. In a speech to the Polish parliament, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the government aimed to enlist every man in the country within the next few months.

BBC News reports: Efforts are being made to “prepare large-scale military training for every adult male in Poland,” he told the Sejm. “We will try to have a model ready by the end of this year so that every adult male in Poland is trained in the event of war, so that this reserve is comparable and adequate to the potential threats.” Tusk said the Ukrainian army has 800,000 soldiers, whilst Russia has around 1.3 million and he wants to increase the size of the Polish army, including reservists, to 500,000 from around 200,000 now.

“We’re talking about the need to have an army of half a million in Poland, including the reservists,” he said. “It seems if we organise things wisely, and I’m talking constantly with the Minister of Defence, we will have to use several courses of action. That means the reservists, but also intensive training to make those who do not go into the army [become] fully-fledged and competent soldiers during a conflict,” he added.

Tusk said women may also undergo military training, but “war, is still, to a greater extent, the domain of men". The prime minister said his government was also “carefully examining” France’s proposal to include Europe under its nuclear umbrella…I would like to know, first of all in detail, what it means in terms of the authority over these weapons,” he said.

Tusk pointed out Ukraine was invaded after it got rid of its own nuclear arsenal, adding Warsaw would like to acquire its own nuclear weapons, however remote a possibility that may be. “Today, it is clear that we would be safer if we had our own nuclear arsenal, that is beyond doubt. In any case the road to that would be very long and there would have to be a consensus too,” he said.

Poland is already planning to spend 4.7% of its economic output on defence this year, the highest proportion in the NATO alliance. Tusk told parliament that spending should increase to 5% of GDP. Earlier, President Duda proposed amending the Constitution to make defence spending at a level of 4% of GDP compulsory, The prime minister also said he supports Poland withdrawing from the Ottawa convention that bans the use of antipersonnel landmines, and also possibly from the Dublin convention that bans the use of cluster munitions.

Poland has ramped up defence spending since Russia’s SMO of neighbouring Ukraine in 2022. It has signed arms contracts worth around $20bn (£15.5bn) with the United States to buy 250 M1A2 Abrams battle tanks, 32 F-35 jets, 96 Apache helicopters, Javelin missiles, and artillery rocket systems. Warsaw has also signed contracts with South Korea to purchase K2 tanks and FA-50 light combat aircraft.

There is growing anxiety among Poles about their future security following US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend military supplies to Ukraine. It is said that most Poles believe supporting Ukraine is in their own best security interests. Mirosław Kaznowski, the deputy mayor of Milanówek, a small town outside Warsaw, told BBC News that a friend of his has decided to invest in a start-up company to build low-cost underground bomb shelters for businesses and homes. The Dutch government has urged citizens to begin stockpiling food, water and essential supplies in anticipation for WW3 breaking out in the coming months. Dutch Justice and Security Minister, David van Weel said that citizens need to also prepare to manage “without the central government.” Euronews.com reported: "The Dutch Justice and Security Minister David van Weel issued a recommendation for all citizens to compile 72-hour emergency kits in case of a natural disaster, cyber attack, or war. It is an update to existing advice to have a kit at home which lasts at least 48 hours"..

Items that citizens are recommended to have include cash, canned food, water and batteries. This advice has existed for years, and a recent study by research firm, Ipsos I&O shows that a quarter of the Dutch population owns an emergency kit. This is a significant increase from 2024, when just 15% of Dutch people had one. The numbers show that recent advice from the Dutch government, as well as the Red Cross, is taking effect.

Only 17% of people surveyed in the study found that it wasn’t necessary to own an emergency kit. They cited safety, electricity cuts, and floods as main reasons to get one. But Van Weel is urging for increased awareness about its necessity, making a comparison to the mindset during the Cold War. “Back then we knew what to do the moment the air alarm would go off,” he told local newspaper De Telegraaf, adding that civil defence was “dismantled” after the fall of the Berlin wall and with it “the entire civilian resilience.”

His comments come as EU leaders met in Brussels to discuss spending more on defence in light of increasing uncertainty about Europe’s security surrounding developments in Ukraine. Van Weel said “the commitment to civilian resilience must now increase at the same rate across Europe.”

European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen has proposed a plan to loosen budget rules so countries that are willing can spend more on defence. Her proposal is underpinned by €150 billion of loans to buy priority military equipment. Most of the increased defence spending would have to come from national budgets at a time when many countries are already overburdened with servicing their debt.

The Dutch minister also referenced Europe’s vulnerability if it cannot count on the US for support. The Trump administration this week announced a pause in all aid for Ukraine as well as intelligence sharing. “We are realising that the world is drastically changing,” van Weel said on Dutch radio. He added that if there is a “real conflict,” the national government could be primarily focused on the “deployment of armed forces and the defence of our country.”

In that case, the populace would need to be able to “manage for a while without the national government, doing all it can.” The Dutch government will publish detailed information on what it recommends for people to keep in their emergency kits. At the same time, van Weel said preparations are being made to strengthen five sectors: food and water, electricity, healthcare, and infrastructure as well as the government itself. Source

America First Legal (AFL) released explosive new documents obtained through ongoing litigation against the US Department of State’s Global Engagement Center (GEC), exposing a vast, government-backed censorship operation to silence Americans under the guise of “misinformation,” “disinformation,” and “malinformation.”

The documents reveal a disturbing alliance between the GEC, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the BBC, the British Foreign, Commonwealth, Development Office (FCDO), and media censorship organisations, all working in lock-step to manipulate public discourse, control media narratives, and suppress free speech.

The GEC, which was forced to shut down in December 2024, was designed to “combat foreign disinformation abroad.” However, through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, AFL uncovered that the GEC engaged in state-sponsored propaganda, repeatedly using willing participants from private media organisations. Further, AFL’s lawsuit against the GEC revealed that USAID had created an internal “Disinformation Primer” that explicitly praised private sector censorship strategies and recommended further censorship tactics.

Two days after the 2020 U.S. Presidential election, NewsGuard Technologies’ General Manager, Matt Skibinski, started an email chain to pitch NewsGuard services. Included in this email chain were: Park Advisors’ then-Director, Christina Nemr who was an Obama Administration State Department alum. According to her LinkedIn, Park Advisors “Designed and led multi-million public-private initiatives addressing security threats in the information environment, bridging gaps between emerging technologies and real-world operational needs. Built and managed a global platform that evaluated and connected tools with mission-critical challenges, supporting government adoption.”

The ‘House Small Business Committee found that Park Advisors received a GEC cooperative agreement award of more than $6 million. Park Advisors then distributed sub-awards to several companies, including NewsGuard, the Atlantic Council, and the Global Disinformation Index, a project funded by George Soros that generated lists of conservative websites it urged advertising companies to boycott. I think it should be a crime to spam a website. Just as it is criminal to hijack a printing press owned by someone else and print dreck on someone else’s publication. This would be entirely in keeping with what libertarians argue laws ought to exist for. That being a mechanism to hold accountable those who cause harm to others, especially deliberately.

That latter part is indeed the element that defines a crime, properly speaking. Inadvertence that leads to harm caused does require the harms caused be remedied, as by making whole the person harmed. It is intentionality, the deliberate harming of others, that constitutes the defining essence of criminality. And spam is 100 percent intentional

SURVIVAL MONITOR – The terrifying scale of modern nuclear weapons is beyond what most people can imagine

At the top of the list is Russia's RS-28 Sarmat missile, nicknamed "Satan 2." This Nuclear Weapon can carry up to 15 warheads and potentially deliver a 50-megaton bomb, causing unimaginable destruction to cities like London, Paris, and New York.

Shaken by the 2007-09 global financial crisis, the WEF has been buffeted by geopolitical tensions since the 2022 Russian SMO and more protectionist US trade policies. Schwab anticipated globalisation would come under fire long before Donald Trump first won the US presidency, and Britain voted to leave the European Union in 2016, events which analysts attributed to discontent with the prevailing economic order.

"A mounting backlash against [globalisation's] effects, especially in the industrial democracies, is threatening a very disruptive impact on economic activity and social stability in many countries," Schwab and his colleague Claude Smadja jointly wrote in an opinion piece in 1996.

China doesn't think so because their absolute priority goes way beyond global trade: everyone familiar with 'Xi Jinping Thought' knows it’s all about achieving “national modernisation”, unification and weaving, with partners in all continents, a “community of shared future”. Geopolitically and geoeconomically, this is the road map ahead: Shanghai is showing that China is relishing its new role as a Resistance beacon, bent on defying Western bullying, and busy building a Global Majority consensus.
