Thank you, AP, for your always informative and entertaining post.
From grey and dismal England, where, as you point out, we intend to dim the nurturing light of the sun – obviously to make our dim overlords feel more comfortable - one item did cheer up the uncouth, such as myself!
Yes, Klaus has stepped (slipped) down. For all the marketing and hype for a global high-tech future, he’s reportedly been removed from his lofty post for succumbing to a very low-tech, deeply personal one-on-one physical relationship. And his replacement looks as if he’s been caught peeping through keyholes.
As always Zara, your kind words lift my spirits when writing about my land of birth. I posted this one so people will at least be aware of the stakes at risk if Ukraine continues to be obstinate and refuses to compromise which is always required in negotiations - give and take - for a win-win outcome.
It is indeed human to err but as the good book says: "we are imperfect". However, asking for forgiveness and making ammends seems only too rare these days due to the failure of Christian morals in what is now a majority secular state. It was pleasing though to read that Gen Z appears to be moving toward a Christian culture.
This is all about the Fourth Turning, which appears to be running its course to a final crisis:
The problem with wars, and chaotic situations in general, is that too many profit from them. One of the most sobering realisations is that, being normal and living life quietly, is viewed as being non-economically beneficial. I’ve heard that Ukraine, in reality, has few choices with its allies determined to keep the war going long term in order to drain Russia of its resources. I sincerely hope that isn’t the situation, but this country is desperate and already committed to ‘help’ Ukraine.
On a brighter note, it’s the London Marathon today! I’ve never been more grateful to view the race from the comfort of my home, luxuriating in a well-upholstered chair whilst sipping tea.
Likewise Zara, I always enjoy my first-thing morning tea! Habits die hard! My mum worked at what was the Vauxhall factory in Luton during the war and told me that, as the girls were running to the air-raid shelters, German aircraft came low and machined-gunned them. Some lost their lives and my mum knew them well.
But in those days, this was par for the course, and so a tea-trucked turned up to deal with trauma! Hot, sweet tea - the grand elixier! "Keep calm and Carry on". If only the spirit of those days could be recovered, Britain would prosper once again.
I wouldn’t wish war on anyone but for those who face the trauma and survive, it offers courage and a kind of nobility. It is sad that our society has difficulty distinguishing morals from meringues – if morality gets a mention at all – very deliberate manipulation.
Thank you for the link. I will watch when I can but am fighting time (how silly!)

Oh well, they’re only human.

But as empires decline, so do the moral capacity of the people, and Ray Dalio explains it in 45 mins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xguam0TKMw8
Happy days!

In your own time Zara, it explains a lot about why we are here now.
