BRITAIN'S COLLAPSE 2025 [Part 2] - Birmingham - Warriors? - Energy - Secret UK - Brit Steel - Recession? - Net Zero - Ukraine - Living Costs - Freedom of Speech - Letter from Great Britain [04-19-25]
"By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes." William Shakespeare (Macbeth, Act 4)
THE DECLINE OF BRITAIN IS A COMPLEX AND MULTIFACETED PROCESS, driven by historical legacies, economic transformations, political instability, and social challenges. While the country retains significant strengths, including its financial services industry with 14 off-shore tax havens, cultural influence, and global connections, the challenges it faces are profound and demand urgent attention.
Matt Godwin says: "Britain’s economy, in case you haven’t noticed, is in the toilet. Growth has collapsed. Productivity is poor. Living standards have suffered one of the sharpest declines in recent history. Confidence has slumped. And prosperity feels like a distant dream.
I don’t know about you but when I walk around the streets of Britain these days I feel a mix of depression and embarrassment. The streets are dirty. Public transport rarely works and when it does arrive it’s worn down. Petty crime has basically been legalised, leaving a mood of fear and anxiety hanging in the air. Public services are a joke. London is dead. People are visibly struggling. And nothing seems to work." Read Matt's revealing full report HERE.
Here's an important 18 min video from a Brit who has left these dismal shores.

The British political landscape has become increasingly unstable in recent years, further contributing to the perception of decline. The post-Brexit era has been marked by a series of political crises, including leadership changes, parliamentary gridlock, and deepening divisions within society. Between 2016 and 2022, Britain had five different prime ministers: David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak, a level of turnover that is unprecedented in recent British history.
For Britain to reverse its decline, it will need to address the deep-rooted structural issues that have contributed to its current state of collapse. This includes rethinking its economic model, investing in education and infrastructure, rebuilding political stability, and tackling inequality. Only by confronting these challenges head-on can Britain hope to regain its footing in a rapidly changing world.
For example, in a country which needs a supreme court ruling to decide "what is a woman", the madness of decline is exposed for all to see. On Wednesday, 16 April, five senior judges in London read out a summary of their decision on a complex case involving the definition of "sex", saying the definition of a woman and sex in the 2010 Equality Act relates to "a biological woman and biological sex".
Central to the dispute was whether someone with a gender recognition certificate (GRC), recognising their gender as female, should be treated as a woman under the Act. The ruling will likely have far-reaching consequences for legislation and a significant impact on access to single-sex services in Britain.
For international institutions such as the United Nations, NATO, and the G7, Britain's influence has diminished relative to rising powers such as China and India, as well as traditional allies like the United States and Germany. Britain's economy is heavily reliant on the services sector, particularly financial services, which account for approximately 80% of the nation’s GDP.
While London remains one of the world’s leading financial centres, this over-reliance on services has left the economy vulnerable to external shocks and created significant regional disparities. According to a 2020 report by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), productivity in London was 33% higher than the national average, while other regions lagged behind, highlighting the economic divide within the country.
While London and the Southeast have continued to thrive, other parts of the country, especially the former industrial heartlands in the north, have struggled with stagnating wages, higher unemployment rates, and deteriorating public services. According to a 2022 report by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 14.5 million people in Britain (over 20% of the populace) are living in poverty, a figure that has risen in recent years due to cuts in welfare spending and stagnant wage growth.
The cost-of-living crisis, exacerbated by inflation and soaring energy prices, has only intensified this issue, leading to widespread protests and strikes. For example, rubbish piles in the streets, and rats proliferate in Britain's second-biggest city, Birminham as the bin strike continues.
Birmingham's binmen launched an indefinite strike on March 11 as part of a dispute over jobs and pay, although they had been holding strikes on and off since January this year. Scenes of overflowing wheelie bins and rubbish piled high along the streets have become common in the city (population one million+) claiming their recycling had not been collected for five weeks prior to the strike. Local, Dan O'Brien, 27, told the BBC he saw four dead rats on a morning walk this week. Bin collectors across the country are poised to follow their colleagues in Birmingham by going on strike, our political team reports. After Unite members rejected a second offer from Birmingham city council last week, Union sources said other industrial action would follow if real-term wage cuts happened elsewhere.
With several councils struggling financially, the chances of other refuse workers ending up in disputes over pay are all too real. The news comes just a day after Angela Rayner had to call in the Army to help sort out the crisis in Birmingham, where 25,000 tons of rubbish have piled up on the streets.
Rats are now chewing through car wires in the city, leaving vehicles stranded and surrounded by piles of waste, with one man revealing that his Mercedes has been “completely written off”. One Union source told our political correspondent, Dominic Penna that austerity could return to local authorities and “then of course there would be a response” from Union members facing real pay cuts. Peterborough and Sheffield are among the places most likely to experience disruption if bin strikes spread. A row over pay for refuse workers between Peterborough council and the GMB Union is ongoing, with a union spokesman confirming that strikes were on the table.
Meanwhile, Unite workers are already on strike in Sheffield because the Union has not been recognised by Veolia, the private company that has the contract for refuse collection in the city. Veolia has an agreement with GMB, the Union that represents the majority of Sheffield’s refuse workers. Critics said it showed that Starmer and Angela Rayner are “the puppets of the unions”.
In the absence of a government with a plan or a spine of its own, the Trade Unions are making all the running. While woke human rights lawyers run Labour’s international policy, Union bosses are the domestic wing. It has been fewer than nine months since Labour’s loveless victory into government, but then recall that the Labour Party is the offspring of the trades union movement. Its puppet MPs, almost half of them newbie parliamentarians, know how to please and where their next pay-cheque is coming from.
Unite, the agitating Union, donated £10,000 to Angela Rayner’s campaign at the general election. And, unsurprisingly, she is doing nothing to fight on behalf of hardworking 'Brummies', who are now wading through mountains of rubbish and dodging rats the size of cats. It is a health emergency, but it still leaves Labour ministers unmoved. The unions have put their money where this Government’s mouth should be and closed it shut. Sources
Birmingham council recently announced plans to raise council tax, which pays for local council services, by 7.5% from April https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-03-21/birmingham-bin-strike-rats-size-of-cats/105080074
The Guardian view on Birmingham’s bin strikes: a wake-up call for Labour
BIRMINGHAM IS STINKING TO HIGH HEAVEN - BUT THE RATS ARE HAVING A BALL!
Angela Rayner has had to call in the Army to sort out the bin crisis in Labour-run Birmingham where 25,000 tonnes of waste have piled up on the streets. The move amounts to an humiliation for the Deputy Prime Minister and for the Government, after the Unite Union which is behind the month-long bin strike, and is one of Labour’s biggest donors, snubbed Rayner’s attempt to work out a deal last week.
GEN Z - WHY WOULD ANYONE FIGHT FOR BRITAIN IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES?
Keir Starmer’s commitment to increase Britain's defence spending, to 2.5% of national income by 2027, is a small step in the right direction. As the United States withdraws from its historic post-war role as 'world policeman' and guarantor of European security, Britain and its European and Western allies must pick up the slack.
Lord Hammond, former Chancellor of the Exchequer and Defence Secretary from 2011 to 2014, attested to the current crisis in a recent podcast published by the investment bank Peel Hunt, saying: “There is no point spending lots of money on defence equipment if you haven’t got any men to press the buttons, and we are unable to recruit even to the rather paltry scale army that we currently have”. The current Armed Forces Minister, Luke Pollard agreed, even if he predictably blames the last government, of which Lord Hammond was a long-serving member. “We inherited a retention and recruitment crisis,” he says, with little acknowledgement of the research and deep thinking required to understand the variables responsible.
Recent polls also bear witness to the unwillingness of the nation’s youth, not only to fight for their country, but to defend it from an invasion. According to an UnHerd poll to mark 80 years since D-Day, published last year, only 29% of 18-24 year-olds said they would defend Britain in the event of an invasion. In addition, just 21% of parents would want their children to fight in such circumstances, 67% would urge them not to get involved.
Moreover, in a YouGov and Public First survey for the Times, published in February this year, only 11% of Generation Z, aged 18-27, said they would fight for Britain; 41% said there were no circumstances in which they would take up arms for their country. Sources
Until the Government finds out why and addresses the factors responsible, the recruitment crisis will persist, and with it, the nation’s extant and growing vulnerability to attack. https://dailysceptic.org/2025/04/13/why-would-anyone-fight-for-britain/

ENERGY IS A CRUCIAL CONTRIBUTOR TO THE COST-OF-LIVING AND IN BRITAIN IT'S NOT GOING WELL
A recent interview with Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband appeared on Radio 4 Today on a Friday morning to talk about the disastrous electricity substation fire that knocked out Heathrow. Expanding into Net Zero, Miliband explained HMG energy strategy to 2030 and beyond.
Miliband later admitted on LBC that the new solar panels for schools and hospitals will be coming from China, among other places, which services an estimated 80% of total global supply. Quizzed as to why British ones were not being used, Miliband told LBC radio: “Our solar panel industry has not got this kind of share of the market.”
When asked if they will come from China or Russia, he said: “Some of them will be, they’ll be from different countries, but that’s why we’ve got to build our domestic industry.” Critics say it makes no sense for Britain to attempt to cut emissions by shipping materials from China, where they are likely to have been manufactured using electricity from coal-fired power plants.
The Conservatives’ energy spokesman Andrew Bowie said: “If these solar panels do come from thousands of miles away it shows how ridiculous this whole thing is. Ed Miliband and his eco-warriors need to get real.” It seems creating “hundreds of thousands” of 'green jobs' in Britain will have to wait a bit longer! Sources

SECRET BRITAIN - THE NASTY SIDE OF "DEMOCRACY"
"All of this seems to be a candidate for criminal inquiries against Obama, Rice, Clapper, Hayden, and others. It also suggests that Admiral Mike Rogers, in his visit to see then candidate Donald Trump on 17 November 2016, [Ed NB - this is the same date as the GCHQ letter], was a true patriot and blew the whistle on the criminal abuse of office by Obama and Rice and others including John Brennan and James Comey as well as those named often such as Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, and Lisa Page. It is suspected that the FISA investigation, being completed by John Durham, will lead to criminal indictments of all those names with the possible exception of Barack Obama, and of course Mike Rogers, who did the right thing for the right reasons." FUN TIDBIT – DOES HISTORY REPEAT?
CRISIS AT SCUNTHORPE - Why does British Steel need to be rescued by the government and what happens next?
British Steel has been through several owners since it was privatised in the 1980s. The latest, a Chinese company, Jingye, was welcomed by then prime minister Boris Johnson in 2019 after private equity firm Greybull had run the firm into the ground having extracted their usual dues.
A glut of steel on international markets, and the investment needed to upgrade the works to run on renewable energy, has convinced this sensible Chinese company that Scunthorpe is not economically viable. The plant, which is the last remaining maker of mass-produced virgin steel in England and has only two weeks to secure raw materials, iron pellets, and coking coal, otherwise the furnaces will cool to a point where they can't be brought back to life, aka dead.
Virgin steel is made from iron ore using extreme heat from coal-fired blast furnaces to break it down. It is the strongest steel and can be used in all steel products, whereas steel made in electric furnaces is not strong enough for some uses. There is plenty of virgin steel available in Europe that could be imported, which would save money for other much-needed projects. British Steel has complained that it pays 50% more for its electricity than its European rivals, which include private firms, ArcelorMittal and ThyssenKrupp.
Workers rushed to the Scunthorpe site this week, blocking Chinese executives who they feared were trying to force its closure. Hundreds of residents then marched to Scunthorpe United’s stadium in support of the plant. In London, MPs were recalled to Parliament for an emergency vote to secure the blast furnaces, paving the way for a transfer of ownership. For the 3,000 steelworkers, it means they live to fight another day. But walking through the streets of the Lincolnshire town, fear and trepidation about how close it came to the brink were never far from the surface.
Jonathan Reynolds, the business secretary, has been given emergency powers allowing him to order the company to buy the raw materials it needs. The government will pay the bill for running costs; Jingye says it is losing around £700,000 a day. In its manifesto, Labour said it would commit £2.5bn to turn around the steel industry. A proposal to take the works into public ownership is expected to be agreed by Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves this month. Blast furnaces, owned by Tata Steel at Port Talbot, were closed last year.
China has warned Britain not to “politicise” trade after HMG took control of British Steel from its Chinese owners at the weekend. China’s foreign ministry urged Britain to treat Chinese companies, that have invested in the country, “fairly and justly” as the diplomatic row over the plant in Scunthorpe escalated. Sources
Starmer is betting that Labour’s broader public investment agenda will generate enough housebuilding and construction to support British Steel.

BRITAIN’S ECONOMY CONTINUES ITS INEVITABLE PATH TOWARD STAGNATION AND DECLINE
RECORD NUMBER OF MIGRANTS CROSS THE ENGLISH CHANNEL ON A SINGLE DAY - BBC NEWS
RECESSION WATCH - BRITAIN'S ECONOMY IS FUELLED BY RETAIL AND IT'S FAILING
Retail sales across Britain shrank during the Christmas/New Year period, as consumers took a cautious approach to shopping. Retail sales volumes dipped by 0.3% month on month in December (ONS). Sales volumes at supermarkets fell with food stores down 1.9%. This suggests consumer spending weakening as several surveys have suggest that confidence has declined. Read Matt Goodwin: "The shocking sense of unfairness that now pervades British life."
Britain’s production sector has shrunk for the last five quarters in a row, with activity declining by 0.8% in the fourth quarter of last year. The fall in production was largely driven by a 0.7% decline in manufacturing and a 2.5% decline in mining and quarrying (ONS). The largest negative contributions came from the manufacture of transport equipment, which fell by 2.3%, and the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, which fell by 4.0%. The ONS said: "The manufacture of transport has fallen for three consecutive quarters, mainly because of a decline in the manufacture of motor vehicles and motorcycles."
Data earlier this year showed that British car production fell in 2024 to its lowest level in seven decades, other than the scamdemic period, as the industry struggled with weak demand and a shift away from fossil fuels to electric vehicles. Despite limited growth in 2024, living standards fell. Inequality, weak public investment and government cuts threaten prosperity. Labour must offer voters something different. Sources
The British economy unexpectedly contracted in January after a decline at factories. GDP is estimated to have fallen 0.1% in January, mainly caused by a 0.9% fall in the production sector (ONS). Economists had expected the economy to grow by 0.1% in January. It was a poor month for manufacturing and construction, both in decline, dealing a blow to the chancellor, “Rachel from Accounts.”
Britain falls down list of affluent nations after a decade of stagnation, NIESR finds. Districts in Birmingham now ranked below poorest areas of France, Malta and Slovenia as the institute urges a rethink on planned welfare cuts.

INFLATION & INTEREST RATE MONITOR – Base rate cuts may ease borrowing costs but without stronger public spending and targeted tax relief, economic stagnation will persist
Inflation in the UK slowed by more than expected, increasing pressure on the BoE to lower interest rates. Annual consumer price inflation fell to 2.6% in March from 2.8% in February, slightly less than the 2.7% forecast by economists.
"It will be welcome news to many that we have been able to cut interest rates again,” said Andrew Bailey, the BoE governor; mortgage holders would agree, but savers might not share Mr Bailey’s sentiments. Without rate cuts, the bank warned, there was a risk of anaemic economic growth.
The chancellor, Rachel from Accounts, backed the bank, saying its action would “ease cost of living pressures”. The benefits of lowering the burden of borrowing won’t outweigh the costs of Reeves’ fiscal choices. She is counting on six base rate cuts by mid-2026 to aid consumer sentiment. However, relying solely on monetary policy is not effective economic management. Reeves is betting that steeply declining borrowing costs will have an immediate impact on businesses and households in a way that capital investment, the core of the chancellor’s “plan for growth”, never could; low interest rates alone won’t end stagnation.
Most of the commentary misses a crucial detail: population growth. While the economy expanded by 0.9% over the year, real GDP per capita actually fell by -0.1%. And that’s the number that really matters for living standards. It’s one thing to grow the pie, another to consider how many are sharing in it. Sadly, GDP per capita remains stuck below pre-pandemic levels and hasn’t meaningfully risen in years (ONS). Let's hope that ambitions to grow the economy are not just pie in the sky. Source

NET ZERO INSANITY – COSTING A FORTUNE WE CAN’T AFFORD? ‘CfD’ Subsidies Hit Record High In 2024
Subsidies covered 30.2 TWh of generation, at an average of £78/MWh. In other words renewable schemes covered by CfD were paid about double the market price in overall terms. Wind power accounted for £1970 million of the overall subsidy, with biomass adding a further £299 million.
“The Renewables Obligation" is a market support mechanism designed to encourage generation of electricity from renewable sources. There are three related schemes for the three legal jurisdictions of Britain. In April 2022 the 'Renewables Obligation' (RO) was introduced in England and Wales, and in Scotland also as the Renewables Obligation. In all cases, the RO replaced the Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation which operated from 1990.” [Wikipedia]
Total subsidies for wind power add up to £9.1bn since the CfD scheme started in 2016, with biomass costing another £2.5bn. In short, wind power is now being subsidised to the tune of about £7bn a year, when constraint payments are included. Sources
Subsidies for wind power via the Renewable Obligation Scheme cost a further £4.6 billion in the year ended March 2024 https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2025/01/04/cfd-subsidies-hit-record-high-in-2024/

UKRAINE - WW3 MONITOR - Russia Issues Dire Warning: Germany Will Be ‘Active Combatant’ If Taurus Missiles Hit Russian Targets - As global tensions climb and Europe’s leadership continues to drift away from the interests of its populace, Russia is sounding the alarm over Germany’s latest flirtation with WW3. The Kremlin issued a clear warning this week: if Berlin green-lights the transfer of Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, it will mark Germany’s full-blown entry into the conflict, bringing with it severe consequences, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported.
Maria Zakharova, the outspoken spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, pulled no punches. Speaking at a press conference Thursday, she stated bluntly that if Taurus missiles, capable of hitting targets 300 miles away, are used on Russian infrastructure, like the Crimean bridge, it will be considered a direct act of war by Germany against Russia.
You can be sure that the Brits and US will be in the thick of it! Trump envoy repeating Russian ‘nonsense’ – Zelensky The Ukrainian leader has claimed that Steve Witkoff’s rhetoric is dangerous. President Trump’s key negotiator, Steve Witkoff, has been spreading “nonsense” about Ukraine’s territories, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said. The diplomat mentioned that he had discussed Russian territorial demands, which angered Zelensky.
The West as We Knew it No Longer Exists’ Says EU Boss in Dig at Trump’s Bid to Remake the World The “end of history” is over and Europe is experiencing a “transatlantic crisis”, said Ursula von der Leyen, former Angela Merkel acolyte turned European Commission supremo.
“Another, New European Union” is needed to shape the “New World Order” (NWO), emerging out of power struggles between the United States, China, and Russia, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen told a German newspaper. Speaking to Die Zeit, the top Eurocrat expressed her interpretation of events that “The West as we knew it no longer exists”, stating that beyond the old understanding of what countries were Western and which not, the European Union is now in talks on working “together with us on the new order” with countries like New Zealand, Canada, the UAE, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Mexico and South America. [Ed: Good luck with that!]
I can see why the little Nazi feels this way: "The European Union could be staring down the barrel of a massive economic hit, maybe $1.25 trillion, if Trump follows through on proposed tariffs, according to a new report by Germany’s top economic think tank. The study, released by the German Economic Institute (IW), sounds the alarm over what could happen if the EU refuses to level the playing field. Trump’s 'America First' trade strategy, which includes a 20% blanket tariff on EU goods, and a 25% tariff specifically aimed at car imports, is designed to claw back advantages handed to Brussels in past one-sided deals.
SURVIVAL MONITOR – The energy price cap on bills across Britain will rise by 6.4% in April 2025, the regulator Ofgem has announced.
This will lift the average annual cost of electricity and gas for a typical household to £1,849 per year, up from £1,738. This is the third consecutive hike in the cap on gas and electricity charges, and a little higher than analysts had expected. Jonathan Brearley, CEO of Ofgem, has blamed “volatile” prices in the wholesale energy sector for pushing up the price cap on British energy bills. Brearley said: “We know that no price rise is ever welcome, and that the cost of energy remains a huge challenge for many households. But our reliance on international gas markets leads to volatile wholesale prices, and continues to drive up bills, which is why it’s more important than ever that we’re driving forward investment in a cleaner, homegrown system."
HMG is considering giving more support to households with their energy bills. It's proposing expanding the £150 warm home discount scheme, so that nearly three million more families would be eligible. This would mean one in five families in Britain would get help with their bills through these proposals.
Announcing a consultation on the idea, energy Secretary Ed Miliband says: “This government is determined to do everything we can to protect people from the grip of fossil fuel markets. Expanding the warm home discount can help protect millions of families from rising energy bills, offering support to consumers across the country." HMG is also planning to accelerate a debt relief scheme which it says will help tackle debt and reduce households’ energy costs.

It strikes me that everything in this world is dependent upon one’s power.
The UK has allowed its power to be stolen or sold whilst its citizens have no concept of the power that they frittered away or the reality that they are unprotected, unskilled, dependent on the whims of rogues and now non-participants in what was once a token democracy.
In an increasingly accelerating tech world with its accompanying specialisations, and thus the necessity to have the brightest brains in positions of authority, it is somewhat sobering to learn that our UK elite are dimmer than average. This is a logical consequence of natural selection. Over time, established organisations lose their ability to accept challenges, analysis and adapt, preferring instead to continue with occupational therapy whilst protecting their positions by choosing staff who will not question, let alone challenge, any event but simply obey orders and cover up the inevitable ‘slip-ups.’
On a brighter note, it’s heartening to see China (sorry for the opium wars) and rats (apologies for our treatment of you in world-wide labs) thriving. You both work very hard and exploit opportunities when they arise.
The greatest sadness, I think, is that we are still blessed and have access to the most inspiring and awesome examples of human thought and action that can strengthen and lift us up and address all obstacles. May we focus on those blessings.
On that note, please allow me to thank you and to wish you and yours a very Happy Easter.
