Thanks for an interesting read, AP.

I am no longer at an adventurous age. However dire the situation in GB is (and it is!) I prefer the devil I know. If I were young, it would be a different matter. As with changing employment, I’d look for a location that had a vision and the dynamism to build toward it.

I envy SA being part of the BRICS – up and coming - whereas GB is one of the countries being deliberately demolished. Good luck to the next generation.

Wishing you a great week, AP. xxx

Many thanks Zara, and yes time passes enough to limit our horizons, so stay safe in your cosy hangout, keep head down, and trust the 'storm' will pass you by. As my good friend says "This too will pass!"

Blessings

This article is disingenuous. South Africa is a failed state, an anarchotyrannical hell hole which anyone who can leave, should!!

There's an interesting article in July's "The Critic", by Tom Jones. It was about Britain's decline but its heading is "Britain's once-secure scaffolding of state is buckling. Is the nation heading for a ... South African doom loop?"

From the article:

"SOUTH AFRICANISATION IS NOT JUST A METAPHOR. IT IS A process, and it has already begun. But what does it entail? Practically speaking, South Africanisation can be broken down into these sub-processes:

. Collapse of public infrastructure and services - often due to corruption or managerial incompetence.

. The retreat of the state in face of growing criminality, prompting a rise in private security, gated communities and parallel, informal system of governance

. Communalist politics, drawn along ethnic, racial or religious lines

. increased social stratification, with an increasingly detached elite able to escape the inexorable collapse of baseline quality of life

. Disillusionment with formal politics and the development of radical political apathy

It makes you wonder where both countries are heading!

Good one Greg, but the Cape is actually well managed; we are happy here everything works well. But the West in general is on a slippery slope I guess.
